Welcome to LVAS!
Founded in November 2016, the Liverpool Veterinary Anatomy Society (LVAS) is the first student-led educational anatomy society for a UK vet school, and it is FREE to join.
Having a good understanding of anatomy is a fundamental part of being a successful vet student and then a good vet working in practice, so our purpose is to make the subject easier to learn, understand and apply by bringing anatomy to life.
We have run practical sessions by liaising with lecturers and other societies to deliver fun and useful revision resources – for example, we have painted the life-sized vet school horse (Barry) with bones and muscles, we have run bone painting/labelling and drawing sessions and arranged several revision sessions. (Including a muscle bingo!), throughout the academic years. We hoped that these sessions allow anatomy to be seen in a more varied, interactive and creative way to make it more approachable, applicable and easier to understand.
The 2021/22 committee secured a grant and was able to purchase a whole range of anatomy models to help students with their learning and created Anatomy versions of Guess Who© and Articulate©
In 2022/23 We held an anatomy themed Christmas Card competition and bake off inspired by their success in previous years, continued creating more Kahoots quizzes and ran a competition to design a mural for one of the walls in the Veterinary Teaching Suite.  Winner of the competition was Catrin Watson-Jones.
This year we hope to continue the great work of the previous committees and continue to put the fun in to Anatomy learning.
Join our Facebook group to see what else we get up to.

I am a vintage student here at the vet school. I was Vice President of the Anatomy Society 21/22 and then President last year and enjoyed it that much applied again for this year. 😊
Learning Anatomy can be daunting at first, but the society aims to help ease that by making it fun to do.

Prior to Vet School and still to this day I've been working as a registered pharmacy technician within the NHS and ten years ago decided I wanted a change and do something I wanted to do when I was younger - fast forward a few years and here I am.

In my spare time I used to travel the UK with my two dogs shown in the photo above (Sapphire & Cobalt RIP 2022/2019) promoting responsible dog ownership and raising awareness of breed specific legislation an archaic law that “types” dogs based on their appearance and not on anything they've done. For this work we received a Dog Today magazine medal presented at London Pet Show alongside the likes of Street Cat Bob (honorary dog), and Dog Lost founder Jayne Hayes.

I am on the lookout for students to help on the committee this year if you feel you would like to get involved and have questions on what roles are available, please email the society email below and keep an eye on the Facebook groups. Hope to see you at the events this year 😊

LVAS are currently seeking members to fill the following roles:
  • Secretary - 2nd or 3rd year student
  • Treasurer - 2nd or 3rd year student
  • Sub-Treasurer - 2nd or 3rd year student
  • 2 Project Coordinators - 1st year students
